China-based vendors of solar modules have lowered quotes from EUR0.8-0.85/watt at the end of 2011 to EUR0.7-0.8/watt currently, while Europe-based competitors have also decreased prices from EUR1.0-1.07/watt to EUR0.8-0.9/watt, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Some Europe-based solar firms declared bankruptcies in 2011 due to lack of price competitiveness against China-based solar module makers. It is likely that Europe-based solar firms have now decided to lower price to secure market share. The price decrease of China-based solar modules in 2012 is relatively small compared to peers. This shows the room to decrease solar module prices is getting smaller for China-based solar firms. Furthermore, Europe is said to initiate similar investigations taken up by the US government on China-based solar firms causing the price slash of solar modules to be small, according to industry sources.
