China Government Announced The Initiation of The Second Round of Replacing Street Lamps

The China government has announced the initiation of the second round of replacing street lamps in selected cities, and the Taiwan government has aslo announced a plan to provide subsidies up to NT$2 billion (US$66 million) in 2012 to replace 250,000 units of mercury street lamps. In China, according to industry sources, the first round of street-lamp replacing began in 2009 in began in 21 cities including Tianjin to establish semiconductor lighting application projects. In May 2011, the program extended to 16 more cities including Beijing. Though the growth of LED lighting was not as strong as anticipated in 2011, the number of LED street lamps in China showed significant growth compared to 2010. Taiwan-based LED maker Bright LED indicated that orders of street lamps from China in 2011 has shown increases. The firm has been receiving orders from Zhejiang, Xiamen and Guangzhou. However, the revenues from these orders have not been contributing a lot to the 2011 total revenues. Taiwan government plans to replace 250,000 units of street lamps with LED lighting fixtures that cover five special municipalities and 11 counties. The industry anticipates the market of street lamps in Taiwan to show strong growth in 2012.
