Trade Resources Industry Views Unilever Has Teamed up with US-Based Environmental Research Company Earth911

Unilever Has Teamed up with US-Based Environmental Research Company Earth911

UK-based consumer products maker Unilever has teamed up with US-based environmental research company Earth911 to check if it is economically viable to recycle deodorant packaging.

The aim of the project, with supporting partners Next life and Funding Factory, will focus whether or not the millions of deodorant sticks thrown out each year, invariably ending up in landfills, could be recycled as a raw material, according to cosmeticsdesign-europe.com.

Unilever's packaging research and development senior manager Michael Hughes said if the program is successful, they would be able to provide the recycling industry with profitably recycled multi-resin deo-sticks.

"National recycling of deodorant sticks will reduce the environmental footprint of our brands as well as our competitors," Hughes said.

According to the company, they will seek the help of students from 50 high schools and colleges, to help collect deodorant sticks for use in the recycling test project.
