Nokia Relaunches Its Highly-Rated Here Maps Application on The Google Play Store

Nokia has relaunched its highly-rated Here Maps application on the Google Play Store.

The Finnish firm, free from the shackles of creating hardware following the Microsoft buyout, has been turning its attention to software with Maps at the forefront of that drive.

Nokia has been testing the app for weeks and it arrives with a revamped interface and a focus on turn-by-turn navigation for 18 new countries, bringing the total to 118.

The app also brings that all important offline mode, which should be a boon for those travelling or on limited data plans
It allows users to download maps of entire countries and then select them for offline use, providing they have available on-board storage space

The launch for Android pre-dates the iOS app, with Nokia promising it’ll be released in early 2015.

“Following the positive reviews of Here for Android, a lot of people have expressed their interest in an iOS version of our app. We really appreciate this interest and demand. Our iOS app development team is working hard on this and we plan to officially launch Here for iOS in early 2015,” Nokia wrote on the Here 360 blog.

There’s also a new design on the web-based here.com site, which also brings new search and a focused traffic view. Those features are now live after a period of testing over the last couple of weeks.
