GAC E-Jet: China's Take on The Holden Volt

China’s Guangzhou Automotive Group (GAC) has released the technical details of its innovative GAC E-jet plug-in concept.

The GAC E-jet is an extended range electric car, applying a similar propulsion principle to the Chevrolet/Holden Volt.

The E-jet features a 1.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that acts as a generator for a 95kW/228Nm electric drive motor.

The E-jet’s lithium-ion battery pack is rated at 13kWh, giving it an all-electric range of 100km, while the engine extends that to roughly 600km (similar to that of the more powerful Holden Volt), with a fuel consumption of just 2.0 litres per 100 kilometres.

Acceleration from 0-100km/h is estimated to be north of nine seconds, while its top speed is rated at 160km/h.

The E-jet boasts a thoroughly contemporary design, attaining a level of styling sophistication expected from established manufacturers rather than a first attempt from China.

Guangzhou Automotive Group is a conglomerate auto design and manufacturing company that also builds and distributes Fiat-Chrysler products in China and makes parts for General Motors, and is determined to bring the E-jet to market.
