General Motors is recalling nearly 38,000 Chevrolet Impala police cars in the US and Canada over front suspension defect which could lead to a crash.
According the carmaker, recall affects police cars manufactured from the 2008 through 2012, in which the front lower control arm in the suspension can fracture, which could cause sudden alterations in handling, further caking the drivers to lose control over the vehicle.
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that the problem was noticed following the carmaker's receiving of reports regarding the cracked lower control arms near a bushing sleeve.
The affected vehicles were built at the company's Oshawa facility in Ontario.
The safety agency said that the safety recall is expected to commence on 21 August 2012, while the carmaker will notify the owners and the replacement will be done free of cost.
