General Dynamics Land Systems has received a $133.5m contract from Government of Canada to upgrade an additional 66 LAV III vehicles.
The new contract is an add on to $1bn LAV III Upgrade Project that was previously announced in October 2011 to upgrade 550 LAV III vehicles.
The LAV III Upgrade Project will see renovation of 616 vehicles, improving their survivability, mobility and firepower and extending the fleet's lifecycle to 2035.
Survivability upgrades will include the introduction of double-V-hull technology, add-on armour protection and energy-attenuating seats.
Additionally, the new 616 LAV III vehicles will come with mobility system upgrades, including enhanced engine, driveline and suspension, and a height management system (HMS).
The 25mm turret's crew ergonomics will be available with larger hatches and new technologies, including improved fire control, thermal, day and low-light sights and data displays.
General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada vice president Danny Deep said the upgraded LAV III contract will provide Canadian soldiers with advanced and modern vehicles.
"It will also provide much-needed job stability throughout Canada's high-value defence sector," Deep said.
The work on 66 LAV IIIs will be done by General Dynamics Land Systems at plants in Edmonton and London.
