Commerce and Grant Thornton LLP Have Launched The Private Business Growth Award

The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Grant Thornton LLP have launched the Private Business Growth Award, which recognizes privately-held Canadian businesses that are successful at creating growth beyond their top or bottom line. “While some companies simply chase top or bottom-line growth, those that are committed to achieving long-term success must look strategically across all core aspects of their business and grow them in harmony in order to fully achieve their objectives,” said Bill Brushett, national leader, Clients and Services, Grant Thornton LLP. “While some companies simply chase top or bottom-line growth, those that are committed to achieving long-term success must look strategically across all core aspects of their business and grow them in harmony in order to fully achieve their objectives. Real growth is about getting better at what you do year over year.”

The award will recognize and celebrate privately-held businesses whose growth strategy encompasses a broad range of activities across their business, such as:

innovation, including new ways of working;

product and service development;

expansion into new domestic or international markets;

development of people and culture—helping employees learn and develop;

improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of internal processes;

improvements in stakeholder relations;

improvements in financial measures or governance; and

leadership through reason and instinct to grow the business.

“Growth should never be an assumed goal—it must be a conscious and rigorous management decision. If we are to truly strengthen the Canadian economy, businesses must be encouraged to think beyond the next quarter’s results,” said Perrin Beatty, president and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce.

Finalists will be announced at the end of October, and a winner will be celebrated as the guests of honour at a gala dinner at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Ont., on November 19. Deadline for nominations is August 30, and all submissions must be received by October 11. Last modified on Thursday, 20 June 2013 21:23
