Tenaris announced on May 3, 2013 that it will invest US$70 million to build a new sucker rods mill with a production capacity of 1,800,000 units per year, to reduce lead times and improve service for customers in the growing North American market. It will be built alongside Tenaris' welded tubes mill in Conroe, Texas and start-up is planned for 2014.
The new mill will include non-destructive testing (NDT), forging lines, heat treatment and threading and finishing processes, a coupling shop and a centralizer line.
"We are committed to enhancing our service and strengthening our local supply for oil and gas companies throughout North America," said Alejandro Levrino, Tenaris Sucker Rods Director. "This project will be executed based on our vast experience of nearly 45 years in sucker rods manufacturing."
Currently the company has sucker rods production facilities in Argentina, Brazil, Romania and Mexico. With this investment, Tenaris will increase its annual production capacity in sucker rods to over 4 million units.
