Marchetti Smallgoods is recalling leg ham from independent supermarkets in Victoria, Australia, due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
The product affected by the recall is Marchetti Leg Ham (sliced). It was sold in clear vacuum-sealed packaging, approximately 200g, and bears a use by date of 5 July 2012.
The agency has asked customers to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund. Any consumers concerned about their health have been advised to seek medical advice.
Listeria is a type of bacteria, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems
