Axis-Shield is using DSM's VitroStealth non-biofouling coating in its new point-of-care cartridge Afinion system.
Axis-Shield said its Afinion system, which can be used during the span of an office visit, can provide patient lipid levels within few minutes.
DSM's VitroStealth Coating has the ability to make plastic capillary surfaces hydrophilic and prevent analytes from collecting on the plastic walls.
DSM Biomedical business coatings manager John Marugg said, "In a recent study, VitroStealth coating was shown to provide a significant advantage in improving the performance of biosensors."
Axis-Shield R&D project manager Arve Stromsheim said VitroStealth coating is a safe, superior material that meets the company's need for robust performance.
"We anticipate VitroStealth coating to be a candidate to support additional diagnostic analyses," Stromsheim added.
