Trek Bicycle will match July donations to World Bicycle Relief dollar for dollar, the company announced Tuesday. The company hopes its donations this month will lead to the donation of 1,300 bikes to rural African communities.
Since its inception in 2005, World Bicycle Relief has put over 137,000 bicycles into the hands of people living in developing countries, most notably rural African communities lacking transportation infrastructure.
"Bicycles have the power to shorten distances to school, work, or hospitals, where other transportation options don't exist," said Brandon Buth, Trek's advocacy director. "We're excited to support World Bicycle Relief's efforts with the Trek Match campaign. We're hoping Trek riders around the globe will join us in doing so."
"Trek has been a valued supporter of World Bicycle Relief since our origins in 2005," said F.K. Day, co-founder and president of World Bicycle Relief. "Their commitment to match donations this July will help double our efforts in empowering students, healthcare workers and entrepreneurs in rural Africa with life-changing transportation."
