Indian Motor Vehicle Production in February This Year Decreased 3.35%

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in February this year decreased 3.35 percent as compared to February 2012 and was down 6.4 percent month on month with 1,731,824 vehicles produced. In the first 11 months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2012), India's passenger car output rose 2.2 percent over the same period a year earlier.

In the April 2012-February 2013 period, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 3.7 percent year on year, the country's passenger car sales in the period in question declined by 4.6 percent, while other light vehicle (utility vehicles) sales rose by 54.5 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registered a fall of 1.5 percent in sales, all on year-on-year basis. However, in February India's total motor vehicle sales decreased by 5.45 percent compared to February 2012, while passenger car sales fell by 25.7 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first 11 months of the current Indian fiscal year India's total motor vehicle exports decreased by 1.7 percent year on year. Passenger car exports rose by 9.7 percent and commercial vehicle exports registered a decrease of 11.9 percent in the 11 months in question, both on year-on-year basis. The SIAM said that in February this year passenger car exports from India rose by 32.1 percent, while commercial vehicle exports fell by 24.3 percent, both year on year.
