Honda Motors has developed a new traffic detection technology to minimise future traffic congestion.
Honda said that the technology, after deployment, will detect the areas of vehicle congestion and alert drivers of the required acceleration or deceleration to avoid trailing vehicles too closely, further resulting in reduced traffic jams.
The new technology will facilitate the drivers to connect to servers that will sync with cruise control systems during congestion and the cruise control monitoring will facilitate vehicles be at a safe and efficient distance.
The automaker along with University of Tokyo's Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology has tested a system equipped with the technology, whose results determined that the technology increased speed by around 23% and overall trailingvehicle efficiency rose 8%.
Honda is also planning to start road testing of the traffic detection technology in Italy and Indonesia in May and July.
The new traffic detection program, which will reduce vehicle collisions, CO2 emissions and arrival delays, is expected to be fully developed and launched by the company's New York dealer Affordable Motors.
