Alpha and Beta Would Share a Chameleon-Like Quality

Alpha and Beta, two new lights by Paolo Franzin for Leucos USA, share a chameleon-like quality: their silk-screened glass diffusers are white when the lights are off, but display a range of shades, from white to sandy-beige, when the lights are on.

Alpha, left, is a sconce shaped sort of like a bow tie; Beta is a free-form, circular fixture that can be mounted on a wall or the ceiling. Both have stainless steel detailing at the center and were "inspired by organic shapes," Mr. Franzin said, "like water rippled by a stone or sand dunes by the wind."

Alpha comes in 14 1/8- and 24 ¾-inch widths (the smaller one is dimmable), and Beta is available in 13 ¾- and 20 ½-inch diameters; prices range from about $335 to $792.
