According to Reuters, Pakistani officials recently announced that the China National Nuclear Cooperation (CNNC) has committed $6.5 billion to finance the construction of a major nuclear power project in Pakistan's port city of Karachi.

Construction has started on the sixth unit at a nuclear power plant in China's Guangdong province - the largest nuclear construction site in the world. The first two reactors there, together with several other units elsewhere in the country, are nearing start-up.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) was launched in December 2009 to deliver nuclear energy to the United Arab Emirates. ENEC is building a total of four Units at the Barakah site. The first Unit will be operational in 2017, with one additional Unit becoming operational each year up to 2020. With four plants online by 2020, ENEC projects that nuclear energy will produce nearly a quarter of the nation's electricity needs and save the UAE up to 12 million tons of CO2 emissions each year.
