Mexican Steel Industry's Correction of Relevant Standards

Due to a translation error, new Mexican steel industry standards mentioned in an article published Aug. 13 erroneously labeled the standards as "ASTM". The correct standard label should be "NMX", as follows:

The standards NMX-B-169-CANACERO-2012, NMX-B-221-CANACERO-2012, NMX-B-223-CANACERO-2012, NMX-H-097-CANACERO-2012, NMX-B-320-CANACERO-2012 y NMX-B-293-CANACERO-2012 will come into force 60 days after publication in the Official Journal.

The NMX-B-169-CANACERO-2012 established sampling techniques to determine the particle size and the chemical composition of all kinds of alloys, before and after embarking on the manufacturer's plant.

The standard NMX-B-221-CANACERO-2012 details the characteristics to be met by six degrees of ferroboron, designated as A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2, used in the steel industry and foundry.

In turn, the standard NMX-B-223-CANACERO-2012 indicates the specifications and test methods of the requirements for grades of ferro-silicon, designated A and B, used in the same industry.

NMX-H-097-CANACERO-2012 establishes the requirements for the designation of electrodes and carbon steel rebar for use in arc welding processes such as continuous with gas shielded wire, welding tungsten electrode arc gas shielded and plasma arc welding.

NMX-B-320-CANACERO-2012 provides techniques for determining the hardenability of steel by the process of the Jominy test, itself consisting of water-hardening the end of a cylindrical specimen of 25.4 mm in diameter and measuring hardness as a function of distance from the quenched end.

Finally, NMX-B-293-CANACERO-2012 set methods must meet two types of round wire high carbon steel, with uncoated stress relieved, for use in pre-stressed concrete.

The federal agency clarifies that these rules cancel the corresponding published in various years.
