Home baking products firm GR Wright and Sons has invested £4.2M in expanding its site at Enfield, Middlesex – a project it expects to complete in October 2013.
GR Wright makes a range of cake mixes for consumers
In addition to enhancing existing processing capability, GR Wright, which was founded in the 1860s, said the money would enable it to increase future production capacity.
Paul Morley, commercial director at food industry building specialist Chalcroft Construction, which is partnering GR Wright on the expansion project, told FoodManufacture.co.uk: “It’s a separate facility, but it’s also an expansion, because they are maintaining the existing facility.”
The cash is also funding the construction of a warehouse that would provide extra storage space in addition to a new three-storey office building. Total additional production and storage space equals 3,700m2, Morley confirmed.
Flour and sugar silos
New flour and sugar silos were already on site, awaiting installation in July, he added.
“As a long established, family-owned business, GR Wright shares many of its values with Chalcroft,” said Morley in a statement.
“We hope that our specialist skills and food industry experience will help the company continue for another 145 successful years.”
GR Wright makes flour and bread and cake mixes for the consumer market, which are sold in supermarkets and convenience store chains under the Wright’s Baking brand.
The company has declined to reveal further details for the time being. It is not known whether the site expansion has resulted in the creation of any extra jobs.
