Images of the Smart FourJoy have been released ahead of the quirky concept’s unveiling at next week’s Frankfurt motor show.
Described as a “forerunner of a new Smart generation”, the happily named FourJoy concept provides another insight into the design of the upcoming Fortwo and Forfour production cars that are set to launch in 2015.
The Smart FourJoy builds on the styling themes developed throughout a series of recent concepts, including the 2011 Smart Forspeed and Forvision, 2012 Smart For-us and last year’s Smart Forstars.
Purposeful LED-infused headlights flank an integrated mesh grille at the front while unique layering of the LED tail-lights creates an alluring sense of depth.
Chrome surrounds the doorless passenger compartment that is also open to the elements from above, with the concept featuring an open roof panel.
The FourJoy’s airy cabin features ‘floating’ seats at the front and a bench for two in the rear.
The boot contains special compartments for two bicycle helmets while a skateboard can be attached to the roof, highlighting the FourJoy’s active lifestyle emphasis.
Smart is yet to release specific details on the concept’s powertrain, though an image revealing a charging port over the front right wheel arch confirms it employ an electric propulsion system.
More details of the Smart FourJoy concept will be revealed in the lead-up to its September 10 Frankfurt debut.
