Ford Mustang Convertible Was Released in Sydney Last Night

Ford Mustang Convertible Unveiled in Australia

The convertible version of the new Ford Mustang was unveiled in Sydney last night as part of a multi-city, multi-continent for the first ‘pony car’ to be sold globally.

Ford initially issued only official pictures of the Mustang coupe – or ‘Fastback’ – though a couple of images are now added to those CarAdvice shot from the Sydney event of the open-top variant that will also be sold in Australia. On-sale timing tipped to be late 2015 for both body styles (late 2014 for US).

The Ford Mustang convertible features a new, multilayered cloth roof that is said to open or close twice as quickly as before – in seven seconds. The new roof is designed to reduce noise intrusion and maintain a sporty profile when in place.

There’s a back row comprising two seats again, though legroom is limited.

As with the coupe, the convertible in Australia will come with a choice of a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine with a twin-scroll turbo or a 5.0-litre V8. Pricing speculation has the Mustang starting at about $45,000 for the coupe.

Australia was one of four countries, along with the US, Spain and China, to be involved in a simulcast reveal of the new-generation muscle car.
