In December last year, Indian motor vehicle production increased by 2.15 percent as compared to December 2012 with 1,734,593 vehicles produced, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).
In the first nine months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), motor vehicle sales in India increased by 2.30 percent compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year, due to growth in two-wheeler sales, while the country's passenger vehicle sales during the period in question declined by 5.72 percent and the commercial vehicles segment registered a fall of 18.38 percent in sales, both on year-on-year basis.
Meanwhile, in April-December 2013 India's total motor vehicle exports increased by 6.08 percent year on year. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year increase of 8.49 percent, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 12.59 percent, both compared to April-December 2012.
