Apr Unveils Sleeve Label Substrate for Pet Compatible Materials

Sleeve Label Substrate for PET Bottles Critical Guidance Document has been unveiled by Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers (APR) for PET compatible materials.

The new guidance protocol is aimed at streamlining testing for full body labels on PET bottles, doing away with irrelevant tests and expanding on other subjects in the existing 'PET Bottle Critical Guidance Document' version.

According to the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers, a new protocol has been put in place for selecting label substrates and materials that are more compatible with PET bottle recycling.

APR president Steve Alexander said there was indeed a concern about the full sleeve labels on PET bottles and the inability of current recycling technology for reclamation of such bottles.

The automatic sorting machines cannot identify the PET resin that affects both the reclaiming community and the local collection system.

PET recyclers see an advantage in greater use of shrink and stretch labels on plastic bottles, with dual benefits.
