Flat Rolled Stainless Sheet in Europe Confirm an Anticipated Increase

First mill announcements of August alloy surcharges on flat rolled stainless sheet in Europe confirm an anticipated increase. The modest 2% rise to €1, 612/tonne on mainstream austenitic 304 (4301) grade posted by Outokumpu signals the first increase in this alloy surcharge since March. It results from a four-week costs monitoring period which saw nickel's price on the LME strengthen slightly, while ferro-chrome and molybdenum headed in the opposite direction. Ferrous scrap prices were marginally weaker, Steel Business Briefing notes. The surcharges on ferritic stainless grades, though much lower, have shown firmer behaviour in recent months, although for August Outokumpu has marked type 430 (4016) down marginally to €466/t (-1%).
