Mercedes-Benz Is Recalling 242 Cars Over a Potential Fault

Mercedes-Benz is recalling 242 cars in Australia over a potential fault with the vehicles’ fuel filter that could result in fire.

Affecting 240 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class roadsters and two S-Class sedans built between April and July 2011, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) official product safety recall website explains the defect relates to a fuel filter that may develop a crack in its housing, potentially causing fuel to leak.

According to the recall notice, “If the defect occurs this may pose a fire hazard.”

Mercedes-Benz Australia is contacting owners of the affected vehicles via mail, with the replacement of faulty fuel filters to be completed free of charge.

There are no reports of any accidents or injuries resulting from the defective part.

The local action is part of a global recall that saw 5800 vehicles –including S400, S550, S550 4MATIC, S63 AMG, C300, C300 4MATIC, E350, GLK350, GLK350 4MATIC, CL550 4Matic, and CL63 AMG models –recalled in the US in December last year.

So far this year, 133 SLK roadsters and 31 S-Class sedans, priced from $83,450 and $213,428 respectively, have been sold.
