Partek Has Partnered with Kennedy Krieger Institute to Develop Commercial Software

Partek Incorporated has partnered with Kennedy Krieger Institute to develop commercial software, which will aid in analyzing genomic data from patients suffering with autism spectrum disorder and mental health disorders.

Analyzing human genetic changes will also help in identifying chromosomal abnormalities that cause conditions such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.

The research partnership, which received $1.8m grant from National Institutes of Health (NIH), will also allow development of analysis tools to identify chromosomal abnormalities in individuals with ASD during infancy to enable early treatment.

Researchers from Partek and Kennedy Krieger had previously worked together in the development of a new mathematical method, which focused on revealing the opaque genetic distinction to estimate the relatedness between populations.

Partek Incorporated principal Investigator and president Tom Downey said, "We are excited to be working with researchers at Kennedy Krieger Institute to build tools that are innovative, rigorous, and useful to the biomedical research community."
