Russian steelmaker MMK's Turkey-based subsidiary MMK Metalurji has announced that it has reached a settlement with Turkish labor union Celik-Is within the scope of collective labor agreement negotiations and so the strike action which started on July 19 has come to an end. Accordingly, both MMK Metalurji production sites in Istanbul and Iskenderun have restarted operations.
MMK Metalurji said that the parties reached an agreement which is mutually acceptable after a difficult negotiation period and, consequently, the strike action put into effect by the union has ended, with the workers resuming their regular hours.
When MMK Metalurji and Celik-Is union failed to reach an agreement regarding wage increases, workers went on strike on July 19. Last week, the company had stated that wage increase offers had not been accepted by the union and that options regarding an alternative future for its Turkish investment were being sought.
