The Machines Have a Downward Reach Optimizing The Unloading of Injection Molding Machines

KUKA Robotics is set to introduce the shelf-mounted robot generation KR QUANTEC K in North America with the launch of the new QUANTEC KR 120 R3900 Ultra.

According to the company, with a reach of 2900mm and payload capacity of 120kg the KR QUANTEC K ultra weighs in at 270 kg.

The new QUANTEC Series of shelf-mount robots also includes the KR QUANTEC K Prime shelf-mounted robot for any application with payloads ranging from 90kg to 210kg.

KUKA said the 12% lighter KUKA QUANTEC K robots make the new series easier to mount on injection molding machines and the QUANTEC K robots achieve 25% shorter unloading times, with the new drive technology and the KR C4 controller.

The machines have a downward reach optimizing the unloading of injection molding machines, due to low base. The axis 2 of the new shelf-mounted robots is located 400mm further forward, expanding the working envelope forwards and downwards.

The company will also feature the KR 60-3 HA whose continuous-path process makes it ideal for detailed milling of mold cavities, mold pockets and mold polishing.

KUKA will also demonstrate a plastic bottle handling and packaging cell with the KR 5 sixx using an ATI tool changer. With the help of the changer, the robot can switch between plastic bottles and an Apple iPad.

The user friendly, fast handling, small robot KR 5 sixx has IP 65 classification allowing it to stand up to dust and water exposure, the company said.
