Japan-based utility vehicle maker Isuzu Motors is planning to build a vehicle manufacturing plant at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh in India with an investment of $185.8m.
The company would utilise Hindustan Motors' Chennai car plant and a manufacturing facility of General Motors until the new plant is completed by 2015.
The official announcement regarding the plant is expected to be made on 15 March 2013 in Hyderabad.
The new plant will manufacture MU7 Choiz a sports utility vehicle (SUV) powered by a 3L engine and V Cross pick-up equipped with a 2.5L engine, which have been approved by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), according to the Times of India.
The company expects to use the near shore advantage of Chennai's auto parts ecosystem to build its plant in the Sri City as well as expand its business in India.
Earlier, Isuzu had offered its utility vehicle, 'Panther' to General Motors to be released as Chevrolet Tavera in India, while the company's diesel engines were used to power Hindustan Motors' Ambassador and Contessa vehicles.
