New Detachable Peripheral Coil System Is Launched by Terumo

Terumo Interventional Systems, a division of Terumo Medical, has announced the nationwide availability of the detachable AZUR CX peripheral coil system (AZUR CX), designed for endovascular occlusion of peripheral vasculature.

It is reportedly the first and only peripheral platinum coil embolization system with a hydrogel coating that expands when introduced into the bloodstream, delivering greater filling and mechanical occlusion with fewer coils.

The hydrogel technology creates a scaffold for neointimal growth formation and allows mechanical occlusion of the vessel with less reliance on thrombus for embolization.

This detachable coils offer enhanced clinical benefits, including more precise positioning, that allow physicians to extend further into more tortuous anatomy, where distal embolization is a concern.

The AZUR CX can be deployed with minimal catheter manipulation.

Terumo Interventional Systems marketing vice president Chris Pearson said the AZUR CX is a great addition to Terumo's diversified portfolio of peripheral embolization products.

"Terumo's mission is to combine the right product solutions with high-quality training and education programs that help physicians deliver the highest level of clinical care," Pearson added.

Terumo launched the AZUR CX at the 11th Vascular InterVentional Advances Conference (VIVA), October 8 to 11, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
