New V8 Supercar Engine Is Launched by Nissan

Japanese carmaker Nissan's motorsports and performance unit, Nissan Motorsport International, has unveiled a new V8 engine which is based on 5.6litre VK56 engine that will power its new Altima into the V8 Supercars Championship to be held in 2013.

The new V8 Supercar engine is 90 degrees in configuration and features aluminum block and heads, double overhead cam (DOHC) and 32-valve configuration along with the MoTeC electronic control unit.

According to the company, the engine has been covered and the bore and stroke have been adjusted to fit within existing V8 Supercars regulations, further reducing the engine capacity from 5.6litres to 5.0litres.

The same engine will also power the company's new Patrol, which is expected to go on sale in Australia in early 2013.

Produced at Nissan's Decherd facility in Tennessee, US, the VK56 engine also powers the carmaker's Titan, Armada and Pathfinder, along with the Infiniti QX, which are currently sold in the North America.
