India Is Planning to Launch The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan in Next Few Weeks

India is planning to launch the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 in next few weeks, which is aimed at promoting hybrid and electric vehicles (EV) in the country.

India Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Minister Praful Patel was quoted by PTI as saying that the country has an ambitious electric vehicle mobility plan.

"In the next few weeks, the Prime Minister will officially launch it," Patel said.

The government is also set to establish the National Council for Electric Mobility (NCEM) and National Board for Electrical Mobility (NBEM) for supporting the mission.

Earlier scheduled to be launched in July 2012, the plan is aimed at laying the vision, set the targets and offer the roadmap for achieving the deployment of efficient and eco-friendly EV (including hybrid vehicles) technologies in India by 2020.

Indian government is also offering INR140bn ($2.5bn) to the automotive industry for the production of EVs, while the industry would contribute about INR80bn ($1.4bn).

The country is aiming to manufacture about six million green vehicles by 2020 that include about four to five million two-wheelers.
