LED development in 2014 will take on a M shape with 1000mA leading the pack

Penetration rates for flash LED in smartphone applications has already reached 100 percent. Ample business opportunities are attracting many within the industry. Main f lash LED driver specs have been 1000mA, 500mA, and 350mA in 2013. Industry insiders believe that LED development in 2014 will take on a M shape, with 1000mA leading the pack for high= voltage flash LED drivers and 350mA on top for low-current flash LED drivers.

Flash LED features include high stability, small beam angle, low voltage for operations, does not require recharge s and long lifespan. It has already become a standard accessory in smartphones. Driver specs 1000mA, 500mA, and 350mA were the most popular in 2013, with high class flash LED luminosity dropping to 240-250lm.

For Philips Lumiled’s Luxeon flash series, 1000mA luminosity is between 220-240ml, and 2000mA has a luminosity of 500lm. Osram Ceramos series 500mA has a luminosity of 120-140lm, and 1000mA luminosity’s 180-330lm. Japanese manufacturer Citizen’s newest CL-773A2 series also released driver spec 1000mA with average luminosity of 260lm.

Although all smartphones are currently equipped with flash LEDs, most mobile phone brands flash LEDs have inadequate luminosity issues,  coined in the industry as “fake flash.”Industry insiders believe that flash LED specs will have M shaped development trend in 2014. Driver 1000mA specs with a luminosity of 250-250lm will continue to be the most popular for high voltage flash LED. For clients with cost considerations, and introducing the flash LED in low to mid class smartphones, the flash LED used has a current of 250mA and luminosity below 75ml.
