Textile and Clothing Exports a Record of a Rise of 3 Percent Year-on-Year in 2013

Textile and clothing exports from the Spanish autonomous community of Valencia touched €733 million in 2013, recording a rise of 3 percent year-on-year, as per the data released by the Center of Information of Textile and Apparel (CITYC) of Spain.

Spanish Valencia's Textile Exports Rise 3% in 2013

According to the CITYC data provided by the Association of Textile Enterprises of Valencia (ATEVAL), the highest exports were made from the fabrics sub-sector, with exports amounting to €256.70 million in 2013, showing a rise of 1.11 percent year-on-year.

The segment of technical textiles ranked second with exports worth €196.67 million during last year, followed by home textiles with €108.70 million, yarn with €60.40 million, knitwear with €39.9 million, garments with €37.7 million, fibres with €17.29 million and carpets with exports worth €16.47 million in 2013.

More than 60 percent of the Valencian textile and clothing exports in 2013 were destined to countries in the European Union (EU). The main destinations of Valencian textile and apparel exports included France, Italy, Portugal, Germany and Morocco.

Meanwhile, as per the CITYC data, Valencia imported textiles and clothing worth €743.28 million during 2013, showing a decline of 2.58 percent, compared to 2012.

According to the CITYC data, in 2013, around 1,520 enterprises in Valencia were engaged in manufacturing textiles and clothing, employing nearly 21,860 people. The textiles and clothing enterprises of Valencia represent 18 percent of the firms operating in the Spanish textile industry and accounts for over 6 percent of the overall textile exports from Spain.
