Cider Australia, the national association of cider and perry growers and producers, is set to revamp the labeling on cider bottles, in order to provide information about the ingredients used in the preparation of cider.
The move comes after country of origin labeling inquiry by the Federal Parliament headed to Melbourne.
The advancement of labeling will help the consumers to combat companies that do not mention the country of origin for their ingredients, reports foodmag.com.au.
Cider Australia president Sam Reid said foreign concentrate is used to manufacture around 50 to 60% of all cider in Australia.
"We just want to even up the playing field, to make sure that people are really aware of what it is they're putting in their body," added Reid.
Around 90% of cider in New Zealand is estimated to be made from local fruit.
