Mitsubishi Australia has decided to kill off and not replace the Mitsubishi Express Van, leaving its line-up without a van for the first time in more than 30 years.
The affordable load hauler, introduced in 1980 as both a cargo hauler and people mover, will no longer be imported to Australia.
One of the oldest vehicles available on the new car market, the Mitsubishi Express Van?was very similar in design to the 1980′s cargo model, with small changes made to meet emission standards and Australian Design Rule changes.
It had no airbags and no stability control.
The Express Van was handed a one-star ANCAP safety rating in 2007, but Mitsubishi declined to make any changes to the vehicle or to stop selling it.
The company has now decided the ageing van does not fit in its range anymore, especially given most of its other models achieve five-star safety ratings.
The Express is still sold in a range of developing nations.
Mitsubishi Australia told CarAdvice that there was no new van being developed by Mitsubishi to replace the Express Van.
