WABCO has been awarded a multi-year contract by IVECO to supply anti-lock braking technology for its light- and medium-duty trucks to be manufactured in Brazil beginning from 2013.
The contract award follows the Brazilian government's order for compulsory anti-lock braking systems (ABS) on new trucks, buses and trailers to further enhance vehicle and road safety.
About 40% of total commercial vehicles produced in Brazil in 2013 are mandated to be equipped with ABS and 100% in 2014.
Currently, only few commercial vehicles registered in Brazil are fitted with ABS which does not allow the wheels of the vehicle to be locked due to the insufficient road friction to transmit braking forces.
WABCO supplies anti-lock braking, electronic braking and electronically controlled air suspension systems, along with the air compressor technology, vehicle control modules and braking products.
