Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou has said that entrepreneurs from his country have invested over E5.5 billion in Swaziland, which includes setting up of 22 Taiwanese firms comprising mainly of textile and garment factories.
In his welcome speech to the King of Swaziland, Mswati III, who is on a state visit to Taiwan, Mr. Ying-jeou said Taiwanese investment has resulted in creation of about 12,000 jobs in Swaziland.
He mentioned that the investment is part of the long term friendly ties between the two countries, which began in 1968.
Last year, Swaziland exported US$ 76.580 million worth of textiles and apparels to the US, under the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
