In July this year, Germany's crude steel output amounted to 3.4 million metric tons, decreasing 5.4 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, according to the information provided by the German steel federation Wirtschaftsvereinigung Stahl (WV Stahl). German crude steel output indicated its sixth consecutive month of year-on-year decrease in July of the current year.
In addition, in the first seven months of 2013 Germany's crude steel output amounted to 25 million mt, down 2.1 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
Destatis has also revised its forecast crude steel production for 2013 to around 42.2 million mt, down one percent from the previous year and down from the forecast of 43 million mt made at the beginning of the current year. The new forecast is still based on the assumption of stabilization in the steel industry in the second half.
On the other hand, in the first half of this year Germany's total hot rolled steel product output amounted to 18.6 million metric tons, decreasing by 2.1 percent year on year, including 12.1 million metric tons of flat steel products - down 3.1 percent year on year, and 6.5 million metric tons of long steel products - down 0.3 percent year on year.
