Daimler Trucks subsidiary Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) has started the production of its medium-duty BharatBenz trucks at its Chennai production facility.
According to the company, the medium-duty trucks will be powered by an engine that delivers an output of 140 hp or 170 hp.
Based on the Mercedes-Benz Axor, the medium-duty BharatBenz trucks are manufactured to be used at construction sites or for distribution transportation.
In addition, BharatBenz products have a localisation rate of 85% and are at least ten% fuel-efficient than comparable products in India.
Daimler Board of Management member Trucks and Daimler Buses Andreas Renschler said the start of production of new BharatBenz vehicles is right on schedule for the company's truck model offensive in India.
"Along with our Indian heavy-duty vehicles, these trucks, which are based on the successful Fuso Canter and Fighter platforms, represent another step in the implementation of our multi-brand modular strategy," Renschler said.
