NETFLIX says it restored streaming video services a day after an outage triggered by technical problems at web service provider Amazon stretched across the Americas.
The outage affected customers in the Americas starting about 12.30pm PST on Monday. The company, which is based in Los Gatos, California, blames problems with Amazon Web Services, and says it is investigating further.
"We are investigating the cause and will do what we can to prevent reoccurrence," a Netflix spokesman said, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Amazon Web Services, or AWS, operates server systems that deliver internet and data storage services for a number of companies.
AWS attributed the outage to issues at its Northern Virginia operations, which it said were resolved yesterday afternoon local time.
The glitch was at least the third major AWS outage this year for Amazon. Service was knocked out for prominent websites Pinterest, Instagram and Foursquare earlier this year frustrating customers and sending the companies scrambling for a fix.
AWS is separate from Seattle-based Amazon.com's better-known shopping website.
