Toys didn't fare too badly on the site either last year, with the PowerUp 3.0, a smartphone controlled paper airplane, becoming one of the most backed projects of 2014. The product was supported by 21, 412 backers and raised $1,232,612 from an initial target goal of $50,000.
In total, 3.3 million people pledged over half a billion dollars on Kickstarter last year, working out at around $1,000 a minute.
