NHTSA Is Investigating a Potential Problem with 2002 to 2008 Model BMW 7 Series Sedans

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(NHTSA)is investigating a potential problem with 2002 to 2008 model BMW 7 series sedans for a possible transmission defect that causes the vehicle to roll away once parked.

According to reports,2006 BMW 7 Series rolls away after being shutting the engine off,which led to a complaint with the NHTSA,leading to the current investigation.

The German carmaker said that it received similar incidents reports by its customers and is also cooperating with the investigation done by the NHTSA.

The NHTSA said that about 120,000 BMW 7-Series luxury sedans from the 2002 through 2008 model years are expected to be affected due to the issue.

The cars have been equipped with an electronic transmission shifters that are designed to automatically shift into park if the driver presses the button to turn off the engine.
