Thin film resistor supplier Viking Tech has been seeing demand for aluminum nitride substrates increase. According to Stone Wei, president of Viking Tech, this is likely to help grow the firm's revenues from heat dissipation substrates in second-half 2012. Viking Tech is currently showcasing 8-inch aluminum nitride substrate at LED Lighting Taiwan 2012. The large-size substrate can reduce packaging costs up to 20%, said the firm.
Viking Tech has been developing heat dissipation ceramic substrates for LED products and receiving orders from many Taiwan-based high-power LED packaging houses.
Viking Tech is currently working with VisEra Technologies to showcase heat dissipation substrates for LED lighting at the exhibition. As LED lighting gains popularity, revenues from heat dissipation substrates are likely to increase, said Wei.
Viking Tech has been planning to expand heat dissipation substrate capacity to a monthly output of 200,000 units. Currently, sales of heat dissipation substrates account for 10% of total revenues for Viking Tech. The figure is likely to grow to 30% by the end of 2012, said the firm.
Due to typhoons which have affected the number of work days in June, the market believes Viking Tech's June revenues will show a slight dip compared to May. But July revenues will show growth, said industry sources.
