LED Chipmaker Epileds Said It Has Been Running at Full Capacity in Second-Quarter 2012

LED chipmaker Epileds said it has been running at full capacity in second-quarter 2012. However, market conditions for the third quarter are unclear and despite an oversupply of LED chips in the market, the firm is striving for flat performance. Epileds said its order visibility extends until July but orders for August and September are estimated to not be high due to slowdowns in economies throughout the world. When asked about China's LED market, Epiled said while the central government has been issuing subsidies for energy-efficient goods since the beginning of June, they are only applicable for a short period and that results will not be reflected until the end of June at the earliest. Approximately 90% of Epiled's customers are from China, with stage lighting being the main source of growth for the company recently, according to Epiled's vice president, Ming-sen Hsu. Epiled's said that in order to keep up with LED chip demand and achieve high performance, it is building a new factory in Taiwan's southern city of Tainan, which is expected to be finished in the second half of 2013.
