Carpet exports from Turkey fetched US$ 546.68 million during the first three months of 2014, recording a surge of 9.9 percent, compared to the same period last year, as per the data released by the Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB).
As per the ITKIB data, Turkey exported carpets worth $546.68 million during January to March 2014, whereas the country exported carpets amounting to $497.48 million, during the same period last year.
Carpet exports from the country accounted for 1.42 percent of the overall exports from Turkey during the first three months of this year.
Sub-sector wise, the highest exports were made from the machine-made carpets sector with exports totaling $519.59 million, registering a rise of 10.6 percent year-on-year, whereas hand-woven carpet exports amounted to $27.08 million, recording a fall 1.6 percent compared to the same period last year.
Saudi Arabia was the main destination for carpet exports from the country, with exports totaling $92.63 million, followed by the US with $59.29 million, Libya with $51.88 million, Germany with $36.82 million and Iraq with $20.98 million.
The European Union (EU) remained the main destination for exports of Turkish carpet during the first three months of this year, accounting for 43 percent of the total carpet exports from the country.
Last year, carpet exports from Turkey totaled US$ 2.196 billion, registering a rise of 9.3 percent, compared to 2012.
