According to the Brazil Steel Institute (IABr), in January this year Brazilian steelmakers produced 2.74 million metric tons of crude steel, up 2.74 percent from December and down 1.36 percent year on year. Brazil's rolled steel product output totaled 2.06 million mt in January, increasing by 1.49 percent month on month and up 0.64 percent year on year.
Of this total, the country's flat steel output stood at 1.17 million mt, decreasing by 8.86 month on month and down 1.88 percent year on year, while Brazil's long steel output amounted to 884,400 metric tons, increasing by 19.45 percent month on month and up 4.18 percent compared to January 2013.
Brazil's exports of steel products in January of the current year amounted to 804,500 metric tons, decreasing by 13.8 percent, and worth US$612.9 million, up 6.9 percent, both compared to January 2013.
