Johnson Controls Will Invest in 10 Auto Seating Plants in The Next Five Years

Johnson Controls is planning to invest in 10 auto seating plants, in the next five years, as a long-term business plan in China in the next five years.

The company plans to increase its contribution in of the seating parts business in China from the present 2%- 3% to 20%, of the market share with the new plants.

Johnson Controls CEO Steve Roell said that ninety-nine percent of what company does in China stays in China or in Southeast Asia.

"We did not go to China for labor arbitrage, we went to participate in the local market," Roell added.

At present, the company owns a total of 56 plants, including the wholly-owned and joint ventures and has also invested in production of individual components for seating and metal parts.

The company has started another business unit for its electronics and auto interiors group in 2012 and also plans to improve in the southern US and Mexico, with interiors and electronics.
