New Official Images of The Porsche Macan Have Been Released

New official images of the Porsche Macan have been released ahead of its unveiling at next month’s Los Angeles auto show.

The latest image gallery reveals a series of lightly camouflaged Macan prototypes undergoing final testing and assessment work in the US, taking tarmac, mud, dirt and desert in their stride.

Giving us our clearest look at Porsche’s all-new luxury mid-sized SUV to date, the images come just days after the German manufacturer released the first teaser video, image and sketches, as well as a snapshot of the car’s specifications.

While Porsche is yet to reveal the engine line-up for the Macan, its release of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions data confirms the existence of both petrol and diesel powerplants in the new model.

The entry-level diesel – almost certainly a 2.0-litre four-cylinder – will consume 6.1 litres per 100km on the combined cycle and emit 159 grams of CO2 per kilometre, while a petrol-powered model will consume 9.2L/100km combined and emit 216g/km CO2.

Leaked slides purportedly shown at a Porsche dealer conference in Atlanta, US, late last month indicated the Macan line-up would feature a 3.0-litre Macan S and a 3.6-litre Macan Turbo, among other models. The base model Macan and Macan Diesel nameplates are expected to be available from launch.

Production of the Porsche Macan will begin at the brand’s assembly plant in Leipzig, Germany.

The Macan will offer a premium rival to the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Range Rover Evoque when it arrives in Australian showrooms in mid 2014.
