A Chevrolet SS influenced by US NASACAR driver Jeff Gordon has been revealed as part of the brand’s nine-car line-up set for today’s 2013 SEMA show in Las Vegas.
With direct input from Gordon, the satin red Chevrolet SS features a larger honeycomb-style front grille, custom No. 24 graphics down its flanks, a carbonfibre rear spoiler and unique 20-inch wheels.
Sitting on lowered suspension and with high-performance brakes, Chevrolet designers ensured the Gordon SS also sounds the part with a performance exhaust plumping noise from the production car’s 310kW/563Nm 6.2-litre LS3 V8 – up 50kW and 46Nm on its Australian equivalent Holden VF Commodore SS.
The cabin has been re-trimmed with perforated suede seat inserts, embroidered headrests and a “racing-style” flat-bottom steering wheel with paddleshifters tied to the car’s six-speed automatic transmission.
In the US, the Chevrolet SS costs US$44,470 ($46,800), up on our local $41,990 Holden Commodore SS that launched across Australia in June.
Joining the Chevrolet Gordon SS concept at SEMA will be a 343kW/630Nm Corvette Stingray Gran Turismo concept – commemorating the video game’s 15th anniversary – a silver Stingray convertible Atlantic concept and red coupe Pacific concept, the 7min37.47sec Nurburgring-lapping 2014 Camaro Z/28 (pictured below) and four other Camaro show specials.
Featuring concept cars from manufacturers such as Ford, Hyundai, Lexus and Mazda, the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) runs until November 8.
