The first official images and details of the 2014 Nissan Patrol have been released following its debut at the Dubai motor show, though the updated SUV won’t arrive on our shores any time soon.
First seen in leaked images ahead of its unveiling at the United Arab Emirates-based show, the facelift refreshes the sixth-generation Y62 Nissan Patrol that launched globally in 2010 and locally in February this year.
But Nissan Australia says it has no plans at this stage to bring the facelifted Patrol to local showrooms, where the Y62 petrol model, starting at $82,690, will continue to be sold unchanged alongside the previous 118kW/380Nm Y61 diesel, priced from $53,890.
Up front the visual tweaks are headlined by new tinted headlight clusters with C-shaped LED daytime running lights and a segmented top lighting row, and new chrome horizontal grille slats that replace the current model’s black diamond mesh.
A more squared-off front bumper features new fog lights and a new lower central air intake that now also appears to house front radar technology.
Changes to the rear are more subtle and are restricted to a mildly reshaped bumper and new red-accented tail-lights swapped in for the existing model’s clear items.
Chrome mirror caps, more pronounced side skirts and new alloy wheels complete the exterior revisions.
The cabin’s layout remains familiar but is shown finished with a combination of tan leather upholstery and woodgrain trim including a wood-rimmed steering wheel.
The current Patrol’s 298kW/560Nm 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine carries over, and early details published by Nissan Middle East on a teaser page for the new-look full-size SUV made no mention of fuel consumption improvements over the existing model’s 14.5L/100km combined cycle figure.
Three transmissions will also be available internationally, comprising the locally offered seven-speed automatic with manual mode, as well as a five-speed automatic with manual mode and a six-speed manual.
Touted as being “designed and tailored to meet the demanding expectations of the Middle East’s car buying public”, the 2014 Nissan Patrol has also been previewed in a promotional video released by its local division.
